Ashtanga is taught in Mysore, India, its place of origin, in a self-practice format with each practitioner moving through the series at his or her own pace according to his or her own level of ability under the guidance of the teacher. It is the ideal way to learn for committed students whether you are a complete beginner or an advanced practitioner.
In my Self Practice classes, after the student becomes familiar with the beginning standing sequences, the main method of instruction is by giving hands-on adjustments to help move deeper into postures, correct alignment and to invite the student to feel and enjoy the postures more fully.
The room is hot. You will sweat. The atmosphere is focused with the students’ attention entrained on their breath and in their bodies. Although the level of intensity will vary for each person on any given day, there is a desired state that one is attempting to align with with each practice session. That state is a harmonious balance between being relaxed in one’s inner being, allowing the body and mind to be however they are in the moment, and at the same time practicing at the edge, the potential of what is possible in that moment.
I teach Mysore Style Self-Practice classes at Triyoga in the Chelsea & Primrose Hill locations. See Classes for more information.

Great energy in TLC mysore. Makes getting up at 4.45am almost a delight 😉
Hi there, Can you please send me more details on the teacher training? Thanks, Gill
My husband, Robert, lives in Mayfair and is looking for a yoga teacher to come to the house a couple of times a week for private in house yoga instruction. He heard about your Mysore practice and is very interested. Can you please let me know if you do come to homes or if not someone who does?
Thank you
Amy Kauffman
